A healthy dancer (MIND AND BODY) is generally a happy dancer.
Here are my top tips for kickstarting some healthy habits in your dance life.
Set specific and achievable goals. This could include things like increasing your flexibility, working on a certain step, or improving your fitness. Having specific goals will give you something to work towards and help you stay motivated.
Create a schedule. Setting aside a specific time each day or each week for your own dance practice will help you make it a regular habit. Try to stick to the same time each day or week to make it a routine.
Find a supportive community. Joining a dance class or school that you enjoy can help with motivation and keep you pushing for more. You'll also have the opportunity to learn from other dancers and get feedback on the progress you make.
Dance is a physical activity that uses a lot of different muscle groups, so it's important to include a variety of exercises in your training. Try adding in strength training, yoga or Pilates to supplement your dance classes.
Proper warm up and cool down. A proper warm up and cool down routine is key to avoiding injury and enhancing your performance.
Put some focus on proper nutrition, hydration and rest: Proper nutrition will provide you with the energy you need to dance. Drinking enough water before, during and after dancing will help to prevent dehydration and cramping, and getting enough rest will ensure that your body is ready to go when you step back into the studio.
It's important to remember that everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for another. It may take some time to find the right balance of healthy habits that work for you, but with time, patience and consistency you will be able to find what works best for YOU.
